“St. Pat’s win Minor U-14 team gold; Junior U-15 silver; and Inter
U-17 silver at Geraldine Memorial Cross-Country in Oldcastle.
St. Pat’s celebrated a great degree of team success at the Geraldine
Dolan Cross Country Invitational in Oldcastle, Tuesday 8th.
In summery conditions, the school were the best single-sex school,
coming 3rd overall in the team competition behind the co-ed St.
Peter’s, Dunboyne and St. Oliver’s, Oldcastle.
The day got off to an excellent start when Andrew Gormley ran an
exceptionally mature race, where having paced well the first lap to be
in 7th place, pushed forward in the final lap to win pipping the
front-runner on the line. With other U-14 athletes in close succession
behind Daniel McDermott (5th); John Gormley (6th); Joseph Mullen
(7th); with Dean Ryan (11th); Nathan Ryan (15th); and Cillian Owens
(16th) all in the 20, the minors were clear team winners.
This team success was soon followed up by Junior U-15 silver, when
Kian McGee (still recovering from injury) came 4th; with Thomas Cully
(7th) over-taking team-mate Joshua Faherrty (9th) in the final steep
climb to the line. One of the performances of the meet was that of
Francesco Kearney who by coming 29th in the race, was the 4th finisher
for the team and ensured that they claimed 2nd overall.
The Inters followed this achievement with another silver 2nd place
team performance when Eoghan Moore lead a team of Cillian Moss and
Adam Gilsenan with the first 3 to count in this level.
Finally, while we didn’t have a Senior team, participant Brendan
Waters, ran a solid race to make the top 15 and bring to an end a
successful all round day.
