St Pats take home 8 medals in the North Leinster Track and Field Championships
North Leinster Championships Morton Stadium Santry: Day 1
14 students competed across a variety of events on Wednesday the 2nd of May in Morton Stadium Santry for the North Leinster Championships.
Sean Nolan competed in the Inter Shot Putt final winning bronze with a distance of 9m 67. Ross Reynolds and Brandon Geraghty took part in junior boys 100m sprint relays. Ross came first in his heat with Brandon coming 3rd to narrowly miss out in a place in the final. Ross then took part in the final coming home in a very tight finish in 3rd to take home bronze.
After all this Alan Carey took part in the Senior 1500m final in what was a very competitive field finishing in 6th.Next up was the U16 mile final with Adam Boylan and Marcus Clarke competing in the final, both lads ran a very good race with Marcus finishing in 5th and Adam in 8th.
Cian Lenehan and Adam Gilsenan both ran in the junior 1500m final in what was a very tough race, unfortunately both lads finished outside of the medals. Eoghan Moore, Adam Canning, Adam Boylan and Marcus Clarke all took part in a very competitive U16 4X300m relay final, unfortunately outside of the medals.
Thomas Cully and Brendan McGuinnes took to the track for the 1100m minor final in what was a very good race for both athletes. Both athletes finished strong with Brendan taking silver and Thomas close behind in 4th.Conor McDonnell took part in a very strong field in the U16 shot putt final finishing outside of the medals. Finally Ryan Sheridan took to the track to take part in the senior 1600m steeplechase final to take home silver.
North Leinster Championships Morton Stadium Santry: Day 2
On day two of the North Leinster championships 13 students from St Pats competed in a variety of track and field events. Killian Cahill competed in the Junior Long Jump Final taking home silver with a distance of 4.92m. Fergus Crilly McEntee then ran in a very competitive 5k final coming home strong in 2nd place to claim silver.
Ryan Sheridan ran in the Senior 800m final finishing outside the medals in 6th in a very competitive race. Marcus Clarke and Matthew Corkery then took to the track running in two very competitive finals unfortunately both finishing outside the medals.
The end of the day saw both our Junior and Inter Relay teams take to the track for the Relay finals. St Pats Junior relay team consisting of Brandon Geraghty, Killian Cahill, Troy O’Brien and Ross Reynolds ran a highly competitive final taking home Gold to become North Leinster Champions. St Pats Inter relay team consisting of Adam Smyth, Paddy Moore, Sean Kane and Alexander Grendon put in another fine display to take home silver in what was another ultra competitive final. Well done to all athletes involved. Everyone who received medals will compete in the Leinster Finals on the 16th and 19th of May. Best of luck to all involved.
