School Trip to “Miss Saigon”

A group of 40 students went, with their teachers, to see the West End production of “Miss Saigon” in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre on Monday, 23rd October. It truly was the “timeless musical masterpiece” it promised to be and the boys were treated to a spectacle of great story-line, acting, songs, sets and special effects, the most memorable being the lowering of a helicopter above the stage to retrieve the American soldiers and the imaginative use of barricades to represent the predicament of the Saigon people who could not leave.

The love story between the American soldier, Chris, and the girl from Saigon, Kim, was moving and heart-rending, but the constant re-emergence of the feisty engineer, energetic war and soldier scenes and boisterous song and dance scenarios meant that it did not become over- sentimental or mawkish.

It was a tremendous experience of theatre which will be remembered by all who took the opportunity to attend.
