This morning, Minister for State for Mental Health and Older People, Helen McEntee and Dublin Footballer, Philly McMahon, spoke to our students as part of our Positive Mental Helath Week. Helen spoke of her passion, for what is relatively a ministerial position, and her vision for supporting people with mental health difficulties. She spoke passionately about helping to create a support system for people who were struggling and also empowering young people to bring about change in attitudes to mental health.
Philly spoke powerfully about his own life experiences and about the power of choice. He emphasised the importance of giving each other energy while also acknowledging the role gratitude can play in helping to counteract mental health difficulties. Both speakers spoke passionately and sincerely and this was reflected in the attention of evrybody present and the thought provoking questions by the students afterwards. Thank you to both Helen and Philly for your time. It is greatly appreciated by everyone here in St. Pat’s.
