In a very competitive Meath Championships at the Navan Adventure Centre in mid-November, St. Pat’s Cross-Country managed to win team gold in the Intermediate category as well as silver in the Junior along with several other individual successes.
In the Minor Team Despite several injuries the Minor Team gave a strong performance finished just ten points outside a medal with Eoghan Moore performing best coming home in 4th with Adam Canning in 16th, Matthew Corkery in 21st and Tadhg Corcoran fourth home for the team in 29th.
The Junior Team had more luck as a fighting Shane Smyth managed to claw himself back into second-place and help the team to achieve silver overall with Thomas Barrett battling home in 11th, Fionn O’Hanlon in 14th and Sam Hawes closely followed by Brendan Waters in 16th and 17th respectively.
Finally the Intermediate team had the most success of the day when they completed dominated the Inter race as Ryan Sheridan and Fergus Crilly-McEntee took to the podium in 2nd and 3rd respectively followed up by David Hawes 6th, Conor Lenehan 7th, Oscar Rogan 8th and Matthew Kelly 9th all performing very strongly inside the top 10.
A few weeks later at the Dunboyne Cross-Country Invitational at Cow’s Park, Dunboyne, the St. Pat’s teams had another successful outing as great individual performance amounted to some fine results for minor, junior and inter teams.
In the Minor race both Eoghan Moore and Marcus Clarke (coming back from injury) ran exceptionally good races against a large field that contained a high turnout from Ulster king-pins St. Michael’s, Enniskillen.
In the Junior, performances from Shane Smyth and Sean Nolan were amongst the strongest while in the Inter race Ryan Sheridan had an excellent overall victory with Fergus Crilly-McEntee and David Hawes coming in strongly a little further back.
Attention now turns to a few tough weeks of training that will continue over the festive season in Trim’s Porchfields and at the Hill of Tara as some athletes jump up an age category and get ready for the championship season.
