St.Patricks C.S  vs St Mary’s Mullingar
Date: 3rd February 2012   North Leinster Juvenile Football Championship Final
Venue: Dunganny     Throw in: 12.30pm

St.Pats     2-18            St Mary’s Mullingar   1-5

Dunganny was to be the venue for the North Leinster Juvenile Final on a cold Friday afternoon as St Pats faced a St Mary’s outfit from Mullingar. Pats came into this final fresh off a convincing semi-final defeat of Marist and full of confidence that they could go all the way in this competition. For the second consecutive game Pats played on an artificial surface which maybe would prove to be a slight advantage over their final opponents. The wind was to favour Pats in the first half and this proved clinical in the opening score of the game from half forward Scott Imade as his strike from the right hand side sailed over the bar and set the ball rolling for what would be a rampant first half display from the lads from Navan as opportunities were created all over the pitch. Left half back Paddy Carpenter gave an exhibition in attacking from the back as he tore the St Mary’s defence apart and was fouled just outside the twenty-one yard line and the resulting free was slotted over by influential centre forward Thomas O’Reilly. This was to be the first of a brace of points from the Wolfe Tones clubman in this final ending the game with seven points to his name. The Pats midfield partnership of Conor Nash and Eanna O’Kelly-Lynch were dominant throughout the first half although Nash was unfortunate to pick up a knock and have to be withdrawn at the end of the half. The defence was top class in the first half restricting Mary’s to a solitary point and cleaning up any threatening moves and often setting up attacks resulting in scores at the opposite end of the field. With Louis Timmons and Sean Smith hitting the net for Pats, the situation facing St Mary’s in the second half was becoming an increasingly tall task to overcome.

Half Time:    St.Pats: 2-11     St Mary’s Mullingar: 0-01

Although the wind was not in Pats favour in the second half it was not proving any disadvantage as the calibre of some of the scores were of an extremely high standard with O’Reilly kicking scores with both feet from every angle. The defence were once again superb in shoring up any possible opportunities for St Marys as corner back Jamie O’Halloran kept the full-back line watertight showing superb strength in bursting out of defence and cleverly distributing the ball to set up promising moves in the forwards. Caolach Halligan added 2 points of his own to the tally as Pats became increasingly superior throughout the field in every department. Mary’s late rally fell on deaf ears as they registered a goal and four points in the half which simply is not good enough for a team with ambitions of winning a North Leinster Final. Soon after though the final whistle blew and the celebrations could begin for Pats on a much deserved  win that is a credit to the whole squad and to the management who have performed brilliantly throughout and who will now face into a Leinster Semi-Final will every hope of progressing to a possible final. Best for Pats on the day was O’Halloran, O’Reilly and Keane Crocock.

In the second half St Pat's once again opened the scoring with points from Niall Lyons and Lee Kelly.  This was quickly followed by a goal and points from Good Counsel.

St.Patricks C.S  vs Marist  St Pats: 5-17  Marist: 2-2

Date: 26th January   Competition: North Leinster Juvenile Football Championship Semi-Final

This was the second time St Pats met Marist in this competition, the last time being in the first round in Athlone where Pats ran out winners luckily after a second half surge from Marist that just fell short at the final hurdle. This was surely stirring on the minds of both sets of players as they ran out in the St Loman’s ground in Mullingar for the North Leinster Semi-Final. The game was played on an artificial surface that allowed good football to be played throughout and reflected on the high standard. The strong wind provided neither teams with an advantage as it swept across the pitch during the duration of the match. As on many previous occasions in this competition it was corner forward Caolach Halligan who opened the scoring for Pats with a cleverly executed score from the right hand side of the field. Marist came into this game with a statement of intent with some hard hitting but a score never materialised and it was quite evident that Pats were by far the more superior side. One of the highlights of the first half was the score from half forward Scott Imade,, a beautifully taken point from the outside of the boot that curled sweetly over to register another point on the already impressive Pats score tally. Centre forward Thomas O’Reilly got the first goal of the game with a sweetly struck shot that curled into the top right corner leaving the Marist keeper helpless on the line. Influential corner back Liam Murphy had to be withdrawn unfortunately at the end of the half after taking a knock to the back of the head. The Pats backs were strong throughout the half and left Marist with a solitary point heading into the break. Would there be another attempted resurgence from Marist once more?

Half Time:    St.Pats: 2-08   Marist: 0-01

The question was answered shortly into the second half as Pats sensibly kept the heads down and concentrated on the job in hand not giving Marist an inch around the field. Centre back Thomas Mc Guinness set himself up for what was the score of the game from 30 yards as his left footed shot sailed over the black spot and showed the true strength in depth of the squad. Full forward Louis Timmons was proving hard to handle for the Marist defence throughout the game and was rewarded with two goals in the second half. A minor lapse in concentration allowed Marist in for two goals in the second half but from each goal Pats bounced back with scores to erase any fear of a Marist comeback. Credit has to be given to the Pats midfield who dominated throughout and were the driving force in a well drilled squad who will go marching on into a final full of confidence that they can go all the way and win. Best for Pats were O’Reilly, Keane Crocock, McGuinness and Conor Nash.

St Pats exit Leinster Senior Football Championship
Sunday, 29 January 2012 18:24

St. Patrick’s  C.S.      Vs      St. Peter’s Wexford
Competition:  Leinster Senior Football Championship
Date:  26th January 2012
Throw in: 1.00 pm
Venue: Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow
St. Pats   0-6       St. Peter’s   2-4

After receiving a bye in the first round of the championship, St. Pats came up against the less favoured St. Peter’s of Wexford. The game was played in very poor conditions with a strong breeze blowing from left to right, and with the pitch in a bad condition for football this was not a game for the purists.  Despite playing against the breeze in the first half it was Pat’s who opened the scoring with a point from David Dillon after 10 minutes to the delight of the large St. Pat’s following. However, minutes after St. Peter’s replied in fine fashion with a well taken goal into the back of the net giving Robbie Burlingham no chance. Pat’s responded with a Fiachra Ward free kick, however, they had Burlingham to thank moments later after he made a terrific save to deny St. Peter’s a second goal. Peter’s then scored two unanswered points before Niall Kane pointed with the last kick of the first half and it appeared as if St. Pat’s were in a good position having the wind in the second half.
Half-Time:  St. Pat’s : 0-3      St. Peter’s 1-2
Pat’s started the second half the way they finished the first half with a tremendous point from an acute angle by Niall Lyons. Barry Dardis then put Pat’s level with a well taken point followed by another magnificent pointed free from Lyons from forty five meters to give Pat’s the lead for the first time and it seemed they would cruise towards a comfortable win. This was not the case, and Peter’s hit two further points to put them back in the driving seat. Pat’s spurned a couple of good goal scoring opportunities before Burlingham was forced into another superb reaction save. However, he could do nothing to deny Peter’s a second goal which was placed brilliantly into the top corner of the net. Pat’s had a great chance to set up a grand stand finish when Nicky O’Brien was fouled inside the box to give Fiachra Ward a penalty kick which was expertly saved to give Peter’s a hard fought victory over the unlucky Pat’s.
Despite the defeat, there were good performances from Robbie Burlingham, Gary Power, Niall Lyons, and David Dillon.
St. Pats:  Robbie Burlingham, Gary Power, Oran Fitzpatrick, Diarmuid Rogers, Niall O’Reilly, James McEntee, Mark Gardiner, Fiachra Ward (0-1), Barry Dardis  (0-1), Niall Kane (0-1), Ruairi O’Coileain, Paddy Kennelly, Niall Lyons (0-2), Nicky O’Brien, David Dillon (0-1).
Subs:  James Heaney for Paddy Kennelly, Robbie McDonnell for David Dillon.
