Evening Study has operated in St. Pats since 1998. It was set up by Aidan Jordan and Seamus MacAteer. It has been running successfully ever since. In the early years a significant proportion of the evening study surplus was put towards buying computer equipment for the school, to charity and sponsoring competitions such as photography and golf.
In more recent times in has been sub-contracted out completely by the school and it operates independently of the school management. Rent is paid to the school and teachers are paid for their work supervising. Evening Study has it’s own insurance and is registered with the Revenue Commissioners as “Moatlands Educational Services”. The fees charged for Evening Study are €390 for the full year in two instalments or a once off fee of €360.
Over the last 3 years Evening Study funded a prize of €1000 each year for one Leaving Cert student towards the cost of his college fees. This award was introduced in honour of the late Johnny Cantwell a much loved and respected member of the teaching staff. Evening study continues to make contributions to worthy school related activities and projects. Evening study is made available to Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate students. Students from other years are then accomodated if all the places are not taken up. Study runs from 4-6 Monday to Thursday and 4-5 on Fridays. There is no study on the Friday before a long break e.g Halloween, Christmas, Easter or before a mid-term break or long week-end.
A strict code of conduct is enforced during evening study. Students and their parents are given a copy of these rules and are asked to sign and return theem to the coordinator. Any student deemed unwilling or unable to abide by these rules is likely to be removed permanently from Evening Study. All absences from Evening Study must be accounted for by text (086-1047282) email (

) or by note when the student returns to study. Students who use their time well during study tend to lay a very solid foundation for success in the state examinations.
