St Pat’s Cross Cross-Country team retained the Geraldine Dolan Memorial Cup for the 3rd year in a row at the Annual Geraldine Dolan Memorial Cross Country Meet in Oldcastle on Tuesday the 3rd of October.
The Junior (U15) and Inter (U17) teams both claimed gold with the Minor (U14) team claiming bronze in a fantastic school performance.
Athletes competed in 1,000; 1,500 and 3,000 metre courses. First up were the Minors in the biggest field of the day. It was a great performance all round by all of the athletes with Brendan Mc Guinness finishing 8th, Adam Gilsenan in 13th, Ben Mc Donagh 14th and Tadhg Martyn in 15th. Those 4 spots secured a bronze medal for the team just behind St Peter’s 1st and Dunshaughlin in 2nd.
St Pat’s Junior team took to the course next where our team of four had a fantastic result with all 4 finishing inside the top 10. Eoghan Moore ran a great race claiming silver in 2nd with Marcus Clarke 4th, Adam Boylan 7th and Adam Canning 8th. This secured gold for the team ahead of Oldcastle in 2nd and Rathoath in 3rd.
Next up was the turn of St Pat’s Inter team which was a highly competitive race with only two points separating St Pat’s from second place St. Finians. Ryan Sheridan and Matthew Kelly ran a very competitive race with Ryan securing a Silver medal ahead of Matthew back in 3rd securing bronze. Oscar Rogan finished in 10th to secure gold for the team.
Last up was the turn of the Senior athletes of Fergus Crilly Mc Entee and Fuad Adio, both athletes had a good performance with Fergus claiming an individual Silver medal and Fuad finishing inside the top 10 in 7th position.
At the end of the day it was time to find out who had won the overall event. With more than 18 schools competing for the prize St Pat’s were crowned winners for the 3rd year running with 188 points with St Oliver’s back in 2nd with 172 and St Peter’s in 3rd with 130.
